How do i choose???

There are many different types of magnets. But basically, we can divide them into four major categories - metal, ceramic, rubber, wood. Many asks - which ones do i love the most???

How do i decide????

Metal magnets are tough. Intricate, beautiful, classy, and not to mention - EXPENSIVE. They may not be as colourful (most of them anyway), but if they fall off the fridge, they don't break. Tough as a nail.

Ceramic magnets are gorgeous. Colourful, extremely delicate, especially when done with great care and artistry. Very beautiful to look at, although some can be very carelessly done - makes them look cheap. Still, the beautiful ones are worth buying, but always be prepared for tears - they break into little pieces should they fall off. They break, and breaks your heart in the process.

Rubber ones are very commercial - very obviously bulk made. No personal touches - all printed the same way. Over time, they bend - especially if exposed to heat or direct sunlight. But their colourful nature, and the cute little graphics printed on them makes it all worth your greens. And of course, breaking upon falling is never a worry for these precious babies.
Wooden magnets are rare - and i suppose, like wood, they rot easily over time. But some are made with the latest of technologies and cut with laser - making the graphics flawless. They have a certain rustic look to them. Instead of breaking into pieces, these wooden pieces of art will split clean in two if they fall.

There. All the pluses and minuses of all the types of magnets i can think of. All have flaws and advantages. So how do i choose the ones i like the most? Which ones are my favourites????

My favourites are the ones with magnets stuck to the back of them. Hell, i like them all!!!!

The First Step

The one very good thing about Facebook is the fact that it can bring people together... you know, the six degrees of separation rule and all. So i met this person on Facebook. She's one of the 'taiko' in the fridge magnet world - her magnet collection can make people cry - so to speak. She's Malay, but is living in Kuwait with her family. So when my good friend Anne (who's also living in Kuwait) introduced us on Facebook, i told her that i wanted my collection to grow bigger, but i don't have that many contacts.

A few days later, she e-mailed me on Facebook, asking for my address. And a week later, i received this beautiful magnet from Iran

It was the start of a very beautiful friendship. She didn't even know me, and still she thought of me. We'd exchanged so many magnets ever since. My collection grew with her help. But this particular magnet was definitely the first step. Thank You Kak Sham!

Surprise, Surprise!!!

My good friend Anne who lives in Kuwait gave me an email via Facebook one day, and said that there's a package coming my way. So i waited, and waited, and waited.
I was sitting in the mini-meeting room at my office with my colleagues, vetting an exam paper, when the lovely Azie called my name, saying that a package was delivered for me. I jumped up, practically threw the paper i was vetting on the table, and ripped the package open (almost used my teeth at one point!!). When i saw what was inside, i jumped up and down like a little girl, and put a complete halt to the vetting session, showing the items off.

There was these 2 gorgeous magnets from Dubai

This wonderful polyresin magnet from Iran

And this classic Hard Rock Cafe magnet from Kuwait!!!

Thank You Anne!

The vetting went on, but i was too busy testing out this cool pen that Anne sent me, which has a built in lightbulb to help one write in the dark. And i spent the rest of the day daydreaming about arranging my newly acquired magnets on my fridge!
